Epidemics, like a zombie apocalypse, are quickly spread diseases over a population (1). What causes this disease though? As you may know, the bite of a zombie is extremely fatal, which in as soon as a couple of hours will turn you into the flesh-eating monsters you've been trying to avoid. No one knows where this infection started but it had to start somewhere. Wherever it started, someone had to be the first zombie. Once that person has turned, they then begin wreaking havoc, biting as many people they can before he or she is eliminated. Those who were then bitten cause a chain reaction, doing the same until a whole area has been infected. This is how epidemics occur. Someone gets infected and later on infects the entire area around them.
Now how can these epidemics be stopped? There are many ways epidemics can be contained. Treatments such as vaccines are some of the most common solutions. After the disease is confirmed, scientists get to work and create a cure for the epidemic which is later produced into a vaccine given to everyone to keep them safe or to help them get better. Some serious treatments can include quarantining an area, which means sealing infected people off from the world so the disease cannot spread. However, some diseases, such as the one that has infected people turning them into zombies, has never had a cure created which turns an epidemic into a pandemic. A pandemic is a disease that has affected, or diseased, the entire world.
To keep safe from the infected area you must survive in, you should follow some simple instructions to keep yourself and the other survivors around you safe.
- Keep your distance - If you know someone's infected in the area, try not to be near them.
- Be prepared - You never know what's going to happen. Always have a plan.
- Stay clean - You don't know what kind of germs zombies could have been carrying. If you were to get anything on yourself, wash up.
- In the event you get bitten, don't hide if from others. Tell others to keep them safe.

I thought it was well written and pretty cool but since it's for kids maybe some color or increasing the font size would make it better for them.
ReplyDeleteIt was good that you explained the meaning of the words quarantining and epidemics. I would just be careful with words like fatal and havoc because depending on what age category is reading this, they might not have an understanding of what those words mean. You did a good job in describing the concept and changing your research for a younger setting. I like your pictures, but the first one did not load when I opened in and your citations were good.
