Have you ever seen a really fast race car? The wind flies through
the driver’s hair and you hear the many sounds of the big powerful engine.
Although this is a big powerful machine, parts inside of the vehicle will in
time become bad, and it is up to a mechanic to fix the problem so that the car
runs like new. This is kind of like our bodies. When we become ill, we see a
doctor to fix our bodies. Doctors have the job to give us medicines that make
us healthy. They look at the inside of us to know what is happening outside of
us. What if one day you were to have belly pain? Your doctor would look at what is happening
inside your body to know why you feel the way you do. Like the mechanic, he is looking for something
that might have gone bad.
Belly Pain
(1) Belly Pain |
One part of our bodies that might “go bad” is our
stomach. A doctor might tell you that
you have Crohn’s Disease. Crohn’s Disease
makes our tummy hurt and we have to go to the bathroom a lot. A person with Crohn’s Disease would tell you: “My tummy is sick, so I have to
take medicine from my doctor. The medicine helps me to feel better, but sometimes
my tummy still hurts. When that happens, I need to go to the toilet a lot, and
then I get very tired. My doctor helps
me feel better and helps me feel normal again. I cannot eat the same foods as a
normal person, because some foods can hurt my tummy and give me pain.” Some foods that a person with Crohn’s Disease
should stay away from are listed below.
Dangerous Foods
(5) Popcorn |
-Popcorn
-Steak
-Nuts
-Corn
-Salad
-Nuts
These
foods make a person’s tummy upset when they have Crohn’s Disease, and they may
make them spend a lot of time using the restroom. On the other hand, there are foods that can
really help a person with Crohn’s Disease. They are listed below.
Helpful
Foods
(3) Coconuts and Bananas |
-Coconuts
- Bananas
- Fish
-Broccoli
These foods will make a Crohn’s Disease patient feel good and healthy,
and they will help their bellies feel normal again.
(2) Exercise |
Keeping
in Motion
One key factor that usually
divides the healthy and the unhealthy Crohn’s disease patients is whether or
not they are participating in regular exercise.
Exercise helps the body to recover and digest foods properly. This means
that exercise helps the food that you eat work properly in your body.

Living a Happy Life
People with Crohn’s disease are normal people too; but, like cars, they
have times when their bodies break down and do not work properly. Doctors are
like mechanics in that they help “fix” us when our parts are not working
properly. It is important that we all get exercise and eat right, but it is
even more important for a person that has Crohn’s Disease. Tell your mom or dad
if you are having belly pain or using the bathroom more than normal so you can
be scheduled for an appointment with your doctor.
